Art hurumanu.

Today in art we had to finish of our manakitanga writing daft that we were working on in term 2 this is my finished copie.

On a nice sunny day in the nice green and warm Forest there where families having picnics, birthday parties and overall everybody was just having a great time. But what they didn't know was that they were getting watched by a big, green, ugly and greedy Monster who was getting ready to steal all of there food. Nobody ever watched out for him because everybody thought he was a myth… going back to the 1970s was the first and only sighting of him that has ever occurred until now. When a man saw him running through the bushes eating all the stolen food he decided to take a photo but as the flash went of the Monster was gone.  The man ran back to the town he lived in and said “ I saw a monster!” “ he showed everybody the photo that he took but it was just a black screen so everybody thought he was crazy and carried on with their day.
What they didn't know was the man was telling the truth and that the monster would be back and more greedy and hungry then ever.

Everyday the Monster would run through the forest stealing peoples food until one evening he got caught. It was on a nice warm sunny day when he got caught, the Monster was eyeing out the food he was getting ready to steal and then in a flash he was of… As he was running  he jumped ... he grabbed the food then he started running and running he was running to the back of the forest which was forbidden for anybody to go the two adults started to follow him, they slowly started to back of  as they realised were the monster was heading but then they continued to chase him they were determined to get there food back

Night vision - Ella West

Today in reading we are going to be starting a a new novel this novel is called "Night Vision" But before we start reading this novel we have to answer some questions.

Looking at the cover of the book, What do you predict this book is about?
Looking at the cover of our novel I think this book might be about paranormal activities that happen in the night.

After reading the back, what additional information do you have?
That viola the main character in the story was born with a genetic condition that makes sunlight deadly.
That she likes to go out at night but one night her going out at night took a turn for the worst.

What genre type of story do you think this novel is?
I think this story is either a frillier or a horror or it could be both.

(personal comment) does this book look interesting to you?
This books looks pretty interesting because the hook interesting and cool and it just makes me want to read it.

What are your thoughts on completing a novel?
Yes because it will be a different style of writing the we can learn about.

CIP

Today in CIP Tamani, Bryce, Nathan and myself were working on a slide to be shared at our next Hui we were showing and explaining what our CIP was like last term and what we done. We had to write scrips for ourselves explaining what we had to do for the activities and why we did them. This is our DLO that we made.

Hurumanu Science: The Water Cycle

The Water Cycle: Bag 1
CO2 Water Cycle: Bag 2
Acid
Desert Water Cycle
Bag 3
Does it cycle?
yesyesyes
Amount of Water
222
Acidity
131

Key: Water and acidity amount: 1 = none
2 = small
3 = large

Other comments:

Bag 1:

Bag 1 cycled water.
Bag 1 had a small amount of water.
The Acidity in Bag 1 was low.

Bag 2:

4. Bag 2 had a lot of Acidity in it.
5. Bag 2 had a small amount of water.
6. Bag 2 cycled.
Bag 3:

7. Bag 3 cycled.
8. Bag 3 had now Acidity in it.
9. Bag 3 had a small amount of water in it.

Conclusion:

Bag 1:
Bag 1 cycled water and only had water in it but it it had no Acidity.

Bag 2:
Bag 2 had a lot of Acidity in it a with a small amount of water in it and it cycled water.

Bag 3:
Bag 3 cycles water but it has a small amount of water and no Acidity.

Ice melt:
When the ice melts the ocean surface that takes its place absorbs most of the incoming solar energy causing the seas to get warmer and more ice to melt.
This can cause climate change because if all the snow keeps melting the water will rise and start covering this surface of earth
Image result for ice melting
Deforestation:
Deforestation is a way of destruction that accrues in the forest they clear all of the trees out by cutting them down the use the free space for many uses. This can affect climate change because we will start to lose all of our earths ear.

Acidification:
when the gas carbon dioxide is absorbed by the ocean the is an acid formed. When carbon dioxide enters the ocean it combines with seawater to produce carbonic acid. Which increases the acidity of the water lowering its pH. People continue to burn fossil fuels is increasing the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Water vapour:
water vapor is a gas phase of water. Water vapor can be produced from the evaporation or boiling of liquid water or hot water from the sublimation of ice. Unlike other forms of water, water vapor is invisible.

Hurumanu Art

For the last couple of weeks in Hurumanu Art we have been doing a lot but our main goal for this Hurumanu was and still is to make a stop motion video, we got a chance to choose how we would make these stop motions everybody got in there groups and had to make a decision on how they would make there stop motions they had to choose out of using clay or using a whiteboard. My group and I chose to use clay making our sculptures was very hard but we ended up finding strategy's to make it easier and in the end we ended up finishing our sculptures and in my opinion they looked pretty good.

Mindfulness colouring competition.

For the last couple of weeks we have been creating a mindfulness colouring competition that will be running on the 22nd of July for primary schools across our community. We have been working really hard this last couple of weeks so that competition will be something that the students who are taking place in this competition will have fun and enjoy what they are doing. We are creating this competition for our community impact project to give primary school students something to do during the holidays.

Today I had to write Mr Sutton a letter to see if he could help us spread awareness about this competition
but talking about it on the school website or school Facebook page so that we could get more participants
to join and take part in our competition.

The bigger picture.

What animals keep our jackets warm?
Downs feathers and Sheeps wool.

What animal makes our boots waterproof?
Cows leather and ducks feathers.

Where does the water in our rivers come from?
The rivers water comes from our rain clouds and the constantly melting snow that is coming of our mountains.

Why do we need healthy rivers?
So we can have fresh and healthy water to drink so we can stay fresh and hydrated and so we can have healthy fish to eat.

What are some of the good things about mosquitoes?
They feed our fish and keep our rivers clean and healthy.

Why are Bees dying?
People believe that they are dying because of cellphones towers and insecticides.

What do Bugs do to our leaves.
Eat them.

Reduce.
Reuse.
Recycle.

How much Dung would we be in if there were no dung de-composers.
In the next three years we would be in 7ft of dung.

Who runs the planet?
Nature.

Dear Toyworld Hornby.

Our names are Tamani and Tai. We are Year 8 students from Hornby High School. We are hoping we could talk to you about a colouring competition that our school is running for multiple primary schools across our community. We are creating a competition for our community impact project to give primary school students something to do during the holidays.

This would also help the students with their well being because they will have something fun to do during the holidays and it will be something relaxing for them to do and it can help them take their mind off things.

For the winners we are hoping to give out prizes as we would like to acknowledge their hard work. We are writing to you today as we are hoping that you could help us run this competition by donating some prizes for our winners. We have three competitions running for different ages, the year groups are NE (New Entrance) to Yr2, Yr3 to Yr5 and Yr6 to Yr8. We were thinking that we would need different prizes that would suit each age group.

We would be very grateful if you could supply us with some prizes. In return we would advertise Toyworld Hornby on our posters and we would be very grateful for your contributions to our school.

We hope to hear from you soon!
