My Christmas holidays.

Last week for CIP we had to make a decision out of two choices we could ether make a DLO explaining our Christmas holidays and our traditions or we could make a DLo about 3 different country's around the world and how they celebrate Christmas. I chose to make a DLO about my family's  traditions, here it is.

Denny & Alice

Denny really likes Alice and Alice likes him back but she wont go out with him, only Because he plays rugby,  Alice doesn't like Rugby boys because she thinks there all the same and all they want to do is party and also her brother died in a car accident at a Rugby celebration, from then on she told her self that she would never go out with a boy that played rugby.

But then a couple months later Denny convinced Alice to finally come to one of his games, While Alice was watching Denny play she realised Denny wasn't like other rugby boys and he was different from then on they started to date.

Jackpot!

After I had just won 3 billion dollars! I straight away went and quit my job sold my house brought the biggest boat I could find, Then the first thing that came to my mind was to own my own private island, I could just imagine having a House, a Pool and just sitting outside in the sun all day that would be amazing. I straight away searched up Private islands for sale the first site that came up was Private island INC I started to scroll down, I saw the perfect Island as soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one and I needed it. It was perfect and It was close to where I lived, LA California and the island already had a massive house and a  pool and pretty much everything that I needed in life at this point, My life was amazing and I had only spent 1.5 Billion I was a rich man I could never run out of money. It was the 18th of September and I was heading over to my Island the wind was going through my hair the fresh air was riding my skin and I felt like no one could ever touch me that's how great I felt, I felt like I was free and That I could live forever. I had just arrived at my Island and the smile on my face had just fell off…

Playing to win.

When I came to Hornby High I didn't feel alone because I already had friends that I knew here from my past school and my league club so I knew I would feel alone because  I could hang out with and be with. If I had to give Denny any Tips I would say just try to make some friends or even just a friend so you do feel so alone. Or join the school Rugby team or Basketball or something where he can build bonds with other peers.

Denny and Todd.

It was Denny's first day at  his new school, he just parked his new car in the far car park, when he got to class the school bully Todd goes of at Denny and tried to pick a fight about it, from then on Todd hated Denny. Denny makes a new friend group and of course its Todd's group of friends and Todd hates it. Also Denny starts to get close with the girl Todd likes and Todd hates it so he becomes jealous and hates Denny even more.

Orana Park

This Monday 7/8 Bh and 7/8 Tz went on a trip to Orana Park witch is Christchurchs main zoo they have over 400 animals there to see but we weren't just going there to see the animals we went there to talk about climate change with our Orana park instructor when we got there we got into 2 groups with our instructors, then we head of in different directions I was in group two the first animal we saw were the Spider Monkeys they weren't out at the time  so we went pass there cages and saw them threw the window. Then we headed over to the Tigers we only ended up seeing one Tiger but it was still cool to see knowing that there is not many  many Tigers left in the world. Then we went to see the Springbok Springboks, It was cool to see the springboks because I didn't think they where as skinny as they where and it was also cool to see how high they can jump. After that we headed over to the Lions there was 9 Lions in total and they where all family they where all massive we got to see them close up because they where all in a cage together instead of being spread out. After that we went over to the Gorillas and the Orangutans I was most excited to see the Gorillas because I wanted to see how big and strong they were.

Cip Stationery Recycling

This week the year 7&8’s are starting a new money fundraiser which is recycling.  We want you to recycle all of our old stationery, every kilo we have of old stationery we send it to a company named Terra-cycle. And every kilo that we send them they give us a dollar back. To support us with this fundraiser instead of throwing your old stationery out bring it to the office and help us raise some money for our school. I recon if we keep putting hard work into this fundraiser we will collect around 15 to 20 KG's. I think with the money that we collect from recycling our old stationery we should put it towards new stationery for our classes. I reckon a lot of the year 7's and 8's will get involved to help the school raise money.

We had make DLO's to get our fundraiser out so we will start to stack up on old stationery. This is my DLO that I made.

Ella West visit

Today in period one we got a surprise the whole of the year 7's & 8's got to sit down and meet Ella West, she came into our school to talk about her books because some of the classes in the year 7 & 8 block have been reading some of her books especially "Night Vision" which is her most popular book. She talked about how she came up with the idea for night vision and how  she set out the setting and how to use sites to create a good setting. She read out us a couple sentences from the book to give us some ideas about the book to get us interested so we would want to read it. She gave us some good tips to use if we where ever wanting to write a book and the process of writing and creating a book. She also showed us her new up and coming book that she has been creating for almost a year the books name is "The sound of my heart" But overall i really enjoyed listening to Ella West.

A video from the All Blacks

Today in CIP we got a video from a All Black, Anton Lienert-Brown! in the video he was talking about how he cant wait to see our finished products that we are currently creating. When I saw the video I was shocked because I never thought that a small school like Hornby High school would get something like that from an All Black.

Community circles

Today in Community circles we were making DLO's or videos explaining what community circles are and why we do them we also had to explain what the zones of regulation are and why we follow them and why we need to stay in the right zones. This is mine and Bryces DLO that we had made today.

PE Beep test

Today in PE hurumanu we done a beep test we where doing this beep test to test our fitness and see how fit we actually are. My results in the beep test where 8.6, one area that I think I need to improve in is to get better at running faster, I will get better at funning faster by practising during PE hurumanu.

I think I worked successfully with others because when they were struggling I encouraged the to keep going and to keep trying. I helped people when they were struggling by encouraging them to just keep going. I think my actions and feelings affected others because when they were struggling they saw me doing and they they probably
if he can do it that they could to.

Each group will be given a fossil fuel. The recorder will read it to the group. The recorder will write down some of the important points.
Person 1: Recorder: to write down 5 points of interest from the text.
  1. 5 Points:
  2. Positives and negatives of your type of mining.

    Art stopmotion

For the last 8 weeks in art we have been creating stop motions. Our goal for our stop motions was to make it about Manaakitanga. Manaakitanga  has a lot of meanings but my group Hans, Jayden and myself chose to pick what we thought was the most important thing about manaakitanga which is kindness. Then we had to make clay sculptures and paint backgrounds to show the story my group and I made two humans and a Monster, this was our thirst time making stop motions so at first it was a bit of a struggle but we ended up getting use to it and we ended up being pretty successful and we made a pretty good stop motion. During us making our stop motion I think we got a little of track and our stop motion wasn't really about kindness but we still finished. My opinion on this hurumanu is alright it was fun at the start but during the middle it was a bit of a struggle when our clay sculptures would break and get squashed but it ended up good.

    KidsCan

Today in CIP we were making posters, letters or creating videos about Kids Can because for the last couple of weeks they have been creating a New Zealand wide mufti day for all of the schools in NZ. All of the money that they make they will put it towards more supply's for the kids in need. Today I made a poster and added in what Kids Can is and what they do...  so this is my finished project.

Wind speed - Making an anemometer.

    Anemometer

    MATERIAL

    1.  Straws (4x)
    2.  Cups (4x)
    3. Pin.
    4. Pencil.
    5. Tape.

    STEPS

    1. Join the 4 straws together
    2.   Put the straws into the holes in the cups
    3. Tape the straws to the cup
    4.   Push a pin threw the middle of the straws and tape
    5.   put a pencil rubber at the bottom and push the pin into the rubber.
    6. draw a green mark on one of the cups
    7. Go out side and test it
Once you have made an anemometer we are going to record the wind speed.

    Group size: 5

    You will need:

    Anemometer (above)

    Roles:

    • Timekeeper
    • Counter
    • Recorder
    • Anemometer Manager
    • Wind generator
    1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
    2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
    3. If possible, repeat the above step four (4) times and record the average number of spins on the chart.

    FINDINGS

    • Record how many times it spins using the table below.
You will need to create the wind yourself by blowing. Get 4 different wind speeds by blowing.

You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

    Time IntervalNumber of Spins
    1.10 seconds7
    2.10 seconds7
    3.10 seconds6
    4.10 seconds7
    • Can you make a statement connecting the number of spins of your anemometer and the speed of the wind?

Image result for rates of decomposition

      • Choose 6 items from the list.
      • Investigate them using Google.
      • Answer the 4 questions below.

      Name: Coke bottle
      1. How long does this resource take to decompose? 200-400 years
      2. What resource / fossil fuel are they made from? Aluminium
      3. How does making this object contribute to climate change? They use lots of electricity to create the cans and the soda creates a lot of carbon dioxide.
      4. How is this resource recycled? The consumer throws aluminium cans a recycle bin. Then it goes through a re-melt process and turns into molten aluminium, this removes the coatings and inks that may be present on the aluminium. The aluminium is then made into large blocks called ingots. Each ingot contains about 1.6 million drinks cans.
